USAJobs Application System Replaced Resumix

As of May 31, 2012, the USAJobs Application System has replaced all Resumix systems, including Army CPOL, Navy Charts, and AFPC. Learn how the new system compares to Resumix, tips for applying, as well as how to get started.

The Department of Defense is now using USAJobs for all branches of the military to advertise open positions, accept applications, and evaluate candidates’ qualifications and eligibility. While the

Resumix online application system was automated based on keywords, Human Resources (HR) specialists read resumes submitted to USAJobs.

However, keywords are still important to the USAJobs system, and therefore are important for USAJobs resumes. HR specialists will look for particular keywords when reviewing applications. The main difference is that USAJobs doesn’t use a keyword search to identify the best-qualified candidates. This means USAJobs applicants can still be considered for a position, even if they don’t have particular keywords listed in their resumes.

Compared to Resumix, USAJobs offers:

• Larger resume storage – Resumix only allowed one resume to be stored in the system at one time. USAJobs, on the other hand, allows you to save up to five resumes in the USAJobs Resume Builder. Each can feature different keywords and emphasis.
• More detailed vacancy announcements – Open position announcements in USAJobs are now specific to a particular position. They include longer descriptions for job duties, skills and abilities, as well as knowledge and specialized experience.
• Improved consideration based on skills and experience (not keywords) – While Resumix relied on keywords to determine the first cut of job applications, USAJobs bases the first cut on the assessment questionnaire scores.
• Longer resumes – The preferred resume length on USAJobs is four to five pages. You can write up to 5,000 characters (including spaces) for each work experience block.
